As the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, this report highlights the importance of using lessons learned from this “stress test” to build more resilient systems. It emphasises how sustainable investments in recovery strategies can help achieve long-term climate goals. This edition also underscores how climate change negatively impacts mental health, either through direct exposure to catastrophic events or indirectly through the psychological distress it causes.

Despite the global challenges, the report identifies emerging opportunities in governance, climate economics, and innovative approaches to mitigating global systemic threats, calling for sustained global action to meet the Paris Agreement targets.

Prepared by Future Earth, the Earth League, and WCRP, this report was released at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland.
